Pond snails in my filter

My main tank is heavily planted, and I have had a few snails stowaway into the tank in the past. I never see snails in my tank, and feed cucumbers, zuchini, and yams pretty regularly to my Clown Pleco. Not once have I found even one snail on the vege in the morning. This week while cleaning my cannister filter I had about a half dozen pond snails left behind in the bucket. Now, I can see a about a dozen+ snails moving around inside the filter. Should I be concerned? Will they eventually make it back into the tank? Is there any way to get rid of them without potentially causing my tank to cycle? I hate these freaking things!

i had a problem like this, i have a large outdoor pond full of snails and fish, and i thought it might be a good idea to put a couple in my tank to keep it clean, they ended up breeding and i had hundreds of them, i would suggest removing them without disturbing your fish to much and then putting them in a local pond or lake.

Sorry to disagree with you Ben... but you should never release a animal from a fish tank into the wild...it could be a invasive species and cause an unknown amount of havoc and or carry a disease with it...I know you are trying to be kind to the animal by releasing it instead of destroying it ...but that is not the best in this case.
