I've spent some time today reading about snails from a large cross section of sites and I'm thinking about checking them out. However I have no idea how many to buy. I have a 10 gallon tank with 6 guppies and about 10-15 ghost shrimp. I want to get them to help control the algae in my tank because although the ghost shrimp help some, they are more efficient at other debris than at algae. So how many, and what kind do you think I should get?

if i recall correctly, you want some kind of nerites. but double check on that one, since i'm just going off a foggy memory.

however, as far as what you don't want - it's apple or mystery snails. those aren't good at eating algae and produce massive amounts of waste.

I've been reading about them too. I think griffen is talking about the zebra nerites.
