Snail-Lover

I think they finally did it. I think my ivory apple snail "Tiki" won the love of my golden apple snail "Goldie" today. I took a picture. If anyone knows for sure if this is snails mating let me know. I am really hoping for babies....


"Tiki" is on the left and "Goldie" is stuck to the glass. ( I will let you figure out the rest.)

yeah that's copulation for you, you can expect some eggs on the rim of your tank, but usualy it takes a couple of times for them to sucessfuly mate.

well they seem to be at it again today. Tiki even managed to push Blueberry my blue male off Goldie the female. I am getting my 6 gallon ready for the future snail nursery. I think Tiki and Goldie are going to be great parents. I will keep you all posted with any new news......

I came home from work this morning and I got a sloppy cluster of white eggs stuckl to the aquarium glass. It looks like about 20-25 snail eggs. Although my snails "Tiki" & "Goldie" are still mating. How long does this mating thing go on for and for how long? I beginning to feel bad for "Goldie" always having a male snail stuck to her. When I get a picture of the eggs I'll show you all. Weeeeee..................

They can mate from anywhere from, 5 to 25 mins. But they usualy will just keep on doing it for about a week or 2 then they take a break

They have been doing it for about 2 weeks. Now I have eggs and they are still doing it. Are they just horny snails? How often do they mate within a year? Every month? If so, I will have to seperate them after this baby bunch hatches. I already have people that are interested in the babies. How old should the babies be before going to their new homes?

its an on and off bassis, if you feed them on a schedule as with water changes. then you should have a steady production of eggs, about a a few batches each week for a month or so than they will take a break for about 2-3 weeks, then start it all over again. For the best survival rate, i would recomend giving them to someone when there shell diameter is at about half an inch.

haha, apple snails are def horny snails :P they mate pretty much constantly too :P i'd start selling them off when they're between a half centimeter and a half inch. another way to control population is to take the eggs off where ever they are and either put them underwater (so the snails can eat them) or just flush the eggs. they'll still keep laying even after being separated since they can store the sperm for several months. you'll have snails everywhere soon - good or bad, that's up to you :P
