Up until i started reading posts on snails i was quite happy with my 1 small snail,now i've got images in my head of it multiplying into thousands and devouring everything in there path.Ok first i need to figure out what it is,i've looked loads i think its a ramshorn but not sure. i know mines a baby as i first noticed it when it was small grit sized now its pea sized. Its shell is see through with small black blotches. It seems to be doing a good job of eating sum horrible browny n stringy algae thats started to develope.Was gunna leave it and was first hoping it would multiply as gettin 10 dwarf loaches soon(if they eat this kind of snail,maybe someone could answer tha too).but if its gunna get out of control shall i get rid now while its just one?

I think you should keep it. If dwarf loaches does eat this snail then that will keep the popluation down. But it is a very good idea to find out what type of snail it is i recommend looking up other snail pics such as...trumpet snails and Mystery snails (its most likely a mystery snail, they are VERY popular and sold in almost all pet stores)

Thanks for advice and link,i still can't ID it i'm probably more confused now! I think the probablem i have is with it being a baby it looks different to what it will when an adult and all pictures in of adults.All i do know is i won't have long to wait it gets bigger everyday and the amount of brown algae it shifts for it size is quite astonishing!And its quick,for a snail!!

Ha read many times how once you find one others will follow just discovered two more one a trumpet snail the other is same species as the one i cant ID but smaller.

Wow these un-IDed snails grow quick the one i said was pea sized earlier in thread is the size of a marble now!Whens it gunna stop?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much. They may be kind of unsightly, but in the end, it's unlikely that they'll harm the tank. Once they begin running out of food, they'll balance themselves out. (At least, that's my experience with the snails that have hitched rides into my tanks on plants)
