Snail Infestation

My tank is empty except for an unwelcome snail infestation. For a while I have been just removing them but now they have started to crawl up my filter tube and jam my filter. This is the fourth time this morning. I have already had to buy one new filter. How do I remove them without putting chemicals in my tank?

Re: Snail Infestation

Those are parasitic snails...they are suppose to be good to have in the tank (long as their aren't too many). They eat the parasites which could harm our fishies. I'd clean them out every so often..but I wouldn't use a chemical to get rid of them. JMO

Re: Snail Infestation

Could I maybe use cheesecloth to cover the filter intank?

I dunno if that work...all you really have to is put a slice of cucumber in the tank and in a few hours you have a few snails gone. They love vegies.

Re: Snail Infestation

if the tank isn't cycled, i'd empty it out and thoroughly clean everything with hot, hot water (not boiling, but as hot as the faucet spits out).. if it fits in the shower, i'd put it in there after emptying the water and use the shower head to clean it all real good and dry it, checking for any signs of survivors.

if it is cycled, i'd go with tiger barbs or dojo loaches, depending on how big it is.

Re: Snail Infestation

I ordered fish online and my tank is going to be fully stocked with rainbow, congo tetras, and a bristlenose cat. I have no space for more fish.

Re: Snail Infestation

Sorry, the only suggestion I have involves a goldfish, so I can't help.

Re: Snail Infestation

Cool thanks Isabella! I think I have Pond Snails. I have only seen two or three about a quarter inch long since the inital explosion. Thanks for the advice.
