Discus Updates

Not sure if i've posted these here yet or not....oh well. Just a few shots of my discus from the other day. They are growing like crazy and now will eat out of my hand. Had them for i guess exactly a month now.

Blue Diamond

This is either a Brilliant Turq or a Flachen (cobalt in my mind). I can't tell yet. I wish i could remember if i got 1 of each or 2 BTs....oh well this fish is going to be a really nice one when he gets older from what i can tell. Very outgoing fish, always hungry one of the first to the meal and showing lots of color. He is growing better then most of the other smaller ones.
With flash.

gorgeous Discus Slug! I have a blue diamond that looks just like yours, also my pigeon blood looks an awful lot like your Marlboro. I had turqs as well at one time but lost them...
Seeing photos of Discus make me think that I would love to get some more to add to my last two that I have had for about a year and a half now.
But they are pretty hard on newcomers to their established territories.

Thanks. Ah they arn't to difficult, just need some TLC and your golden. The key to discus that A LOT of people miss is starting with healthy stock. That goes for any fish, but especially for discus. LFS tend to not be that "good stock" most of the time so a lot of people fail in their attempts. Start healthy stay healthy. With a little effort of course.

I have double of like all the fish pictured here haha, just those seem to set themselves apart from the others. 2 blue diamond pictures up top are of the same fish. And the 2 cobalt pictures are the same fish.

Jack is a classic. A living legend. Still tons of knowledge after all these years. These days though he does have part of a hand in the operation, he has turned most of it over to his friend Gabe who raises, breeds, and looks after the business. I personally find the quality lacking compared to the older Wattleys but maybe its not his quality lacking, but other breeders getting better. He of course started it all.

I love blue diamonds...I am hoping we'll get 4 discus for our 120g eventually. I have learned that blue diamond are much more aggressive than the regular kinds of discus. I haven't a clue to this or not...but when I like a fish they are usually aggressive on some level. lol

Mine don't seem to any more or less aggressive. I do know for a fact blue diamonds take longer to reach maturity then other strains.

That first pic is amazing. Is that darker blue its coloration, or is that due to lighting and the black background?

I'd say it's due to lighting. I think he said the first 2 (top) are the same fish.

Very nice pictures, slug! Awesome fish.

I wish they don't require too high temp to keep.

Indeed. One was taken with flash the other without. But, during breeding the blue diamonds will usually turn almost black on their sides. Or a really deep blue.

My tank stays at a toasty 86 I love doing water changes on this tank.

Soon to come....1-2 new discus tanks (!!) and more discus!

I love the malboro! The blue is nice too, but the reds and oranges always pop for me.

I'm a sucker for the classic solid strains. The reds are nice to me, but only if they are the more toned down rusty colored type. I love solid fish. Some spots might be in my future, but solids are where my heart lies right now. As you can tell, i love the blue. I might work with some red in another tank.

Well he got it! I was yelling at him through the tank. It was my first discus spawn so i'm upset, but realistically all cichlids go through the parental learning phase so its not to big of a deal.
