I have decided on my first experiment. The decision was made mostly by virtue of the low cost of the experiment and the ease with which it could be completed.
I will be testing SeaChem's
nitrogen cycle product, Stability.
I will be starting with a 20g tank with neutral substrate, plastic plants (for extra surfaces that the bacteria can colonize) and a Whisper filter. Everything will have been sterilized before introduction.
The one thing I don't know is what I'm going to use for an
ammonia source. I am probably just going to use plain ammonia, as I believe I have phosphorous in my water source, but I am troubled by the possibility that I may be missing other trace nutrients that would be present in fish waste.
