New to the forum and wondering about silver dollars

Hi guys new to the forum also. I have a 50 gallon with 2 silver dollars, 2 red hooks and 2 bala sharks and a sucker fish. I was wondering if you guys think i could add 2 more silver dollars?

Hi gonzo! welcome to fishlore!! I moved your thread to its own area so you might have more members able to answer yours specifically instead of confusing with the original posters questions ..

in a 50 gal tank, you are pretty maxed out with just the bala's..they get to over a foot and really bang around a tank the bigger they get...its recommended a 55 gal for one bala ....if you plan to keep them, I wouldnt add anything else..if you can get a bigger tank or are planning on rehoming them, you still probably have the max of dollars at 4 for the 55 gal..lets see what some other members might have for suggestions. ...good luck!

I have 6 silver dollars in my 55, along with many smaller fish. Yes, I'm probably overstocked but I keep the water clean and everybody seems to be happy. Agree with Shawnie on the balas.

if they are juvies its great...but ive seen a school of at least 8 inch silver dollars in my friends 200 gal tank .. with 6 of them that size, in a 55 gal tank, they tend to be skittish sometimes that they could hurt themselves running into the tank without enough space to get around

Welcome to Fish Lore Gonzo! Some good advice above. I would limit myself to 4 Silver Dollars since you have balas in a 55g tank.

If your silver dollars are small, then you can still put a few more in. Other than that your tank would be over stocked. Since I've seen wild silver dollars before, and they grow very very big. They are cute when they are babies, but within 6 months or so they can grow big. Especially in the wild!
