Soon i will b getting a new tank with silver dollars and other fish. in the tank should i just start off with fake plants so the silver dollars wont eat them. or should i try 2 use some live plants and see if they eat them?

Silver dollars love to eat live plants in the tank. You can try some inexpensive plants in there if you like. They should not hurt your fish to eat them if they are truly aquatic plants. I have read that jave fern or java moss might be good choices since they have a bad taste to the fish.

Allright thanks i will get some driftwood with java fern on it and c how it goes.

I have 4 4" silver dollars in a 55g with kribs, pleco's and gourami's. All fish are very happy. I knew they tore up plants, but i had Java moss and Java fern covering a massive piece of driftwood, and some floating about. Lots! Gunnie's right, these two plants no fish will really eat. I bought them off with lettuce for a while, but eventually, they totally devoured both! I'm talking like a huge head of lettuce amount of fern! That being said, they are pretty cool fish!
