my tank right now has:
-opaline gourami
-dwarf gourami
-small pleco (wont get bigger then 4 inches)
-3 harliquin rasboras
-orange platy
-black sword
and its a 20 gallon, fake plants

but i might be getting a 65 gallon, in which i would like to transfer my fish i have now into and then get some silver dollars

how many silver dollars would i be able to get and be ok?
im obviously doing my research and everything but i would like some opinions from here

in the 20 gallon, none...in the 65 , 4-6 would be fine..they are great fish

As the dollars get larger, they will eat the rasboras and the livebearers.
They are usually listed as vegatarians, but are actually omnivores.
Depending on species, as there are several species of silver dollar imported, I would go with between 5-7.

I was told from the LFS that if i bought them small (like 1-2cm) they would have a much better chance at staying away from the other fish and being less violent, even when they get bigger

what fish would be ok to mix with the silver dollars?

Silver dollars are great, but I wouldnt get any more than 3.
