| | Fish Helper | Hi platey ben
Dont forget they get rather large ( 6"-7" ) .
At this size they look less like a silver dollar and more like $100 note . Last edited by seedy; August 22nd, 2008 at 06:22 AM.

| | Fish Master | Silver dollars are just as sketchy as piranha, and just as boring. They don't do anything but sit there. We've had baby ones and 2 adult pairs here in our 120g.
The females are bigger and thicker. The males get a nice pinkish hue when they want to breed.
What tank do you want them in? I think they would do best in larger groups since they are so sketchy. |

| | Fish Helper | I've got 4 silver dollars with 3 sarpae tetras. The smallest of the silver dollars is getting picked on terribly but I'm not sure by who. He is definitely a loner and somebody is nipping fins. He also has sore spots on his body! I dont know what to do about it! |

| | Fish Keeper | To Gypsigirl71: Your Serpae Tetras are my prime suspects for fin nipping here.
Silver Dollars usually protect each in other, but since your shoal is a bit undersized, it could be that one of them is responsible for it.
I would consider adding another to keep the school in 5, also the Serpae Tetras might work better in a group of 5. Since your tank is 55gal you have plenty of room to do that at least.

Santo Domingo | Although possible that serpae might be culpit, i wouild also suspect that it was done by its own kind. Silver $ is relative of Tetra but not Tetra and is closely related to pirahnna but not in their eating habits.lol! Last edited by cerianthus; March 2nd, 2009 at 06:44 PM.
