I have somthing that it can get to the surface with so that wont be a problem. My concern is that they like water more on the brackish side. My water is really hard with a high pH and I could add a little aquarium salt to the water. Do you think a fiddler carb could live in that aquarium? By the way I can't get shrimp or any other inverts because they are illegal were I live. I origanilly wanted some shrimp but their illegal and the fiddler crab is my last resort. Plus I think they are cool. So what do u think?

Also If I could get a fiddler crab would my betta be in danger because of him?? He is active and is not usually sitting near the bottom.

Good morning. I've merged your posts to save some space.
Thanks!
Ken

I think it's a bad idea, personally.

Bettas are not brackish fish, and most (if not all) fiddler crabs are not freshwater crabs. Trying to force one or the other into an unsuitable environment is a recipe for disaster and unhealthy pets.

Hello Emmanuel. I've merged your posts to save some space. I agree with Mathas. I think the salt would do more harm than good to your Betta. Have you thought about some Mystery Snails?

Crabs need land to breathe air. Also the betta is small enough for the crab to hunt down. Also you need to have a colony of crabs.

I can't stress enough on how crabs need land.

Agreed with Mathas. Fiddlers are brackish, they need a pretty hefty amount of salt in their water, and this wouldn't be good for the betta.

You don't need to answer this, but: Where do you live? Is it a state law that inverts like shrimp are illegal? It seems really odd because many of the shrimp wouldn't be a danger in most US states, due to the fact that they need saltwater to breed.

The fiddler crabs at the pet store are in a freshwater aquarium with no way to get to land.

That doesn't mean that's how they should live. Fiddlers will live for a few months in freshwater and about the same without the ability to get to land. They are capable of living for years, however, if giving a proper habitat.

This has quite a bit of info about keeping them.

Yes unfortunately most sellers don't really care as long as they make a quick buck off it.

I suggest getting some as a well kept terrarium is just about as fun as an aquarium.
