Sarrixx, welcome to Fishlore. I moved your post to its own thread.

There are a few types of freshwater crab, like the freshwater spider crab and the paddy-crab. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what ones are available in the aquarium trade.

There are a few to pick from, I only know the name of one though. And anyone who is into Lake Tanganyika cichlids these are very cool. There is Platyhelphusa sp. from Lake Tanganyika and even cooler there is an eel from there also that I know of, probably more but these are the two I have seen in the hobby, Mastecembelus Elipsifer.

Well the're aren't many. But there are a few brackish crabs which don't require much work. And when I say don't require much, I mean it. I have 8 fiddler crabs that require to change the water like once a month, throw a few pellets in there once a day and just wattch them do there thing.

So don't rule out brackish crabs because they are just as easy to take care of as others. The only thing extra you will need is about 2-3 teaspoons of marine salt a month!

Oh and not to mention they are cheap.

Years ago I kept a Blue Crab in my 155g tank. I caught it in the creek in front of my house (brackish). He lived in my tank for almost 2 years. I had no idea that crabs molted. I found one of his molted shells and thought it had died. Two days later I found the crab back in my tank and accused my other half of fishing, and catching another one and putting it in the tank. LOL oops! Then I learned about molting.

I ended up acclimating him back into the creek when I decided to go tropical freshwater. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine.
