Shrimp tank

I am going to try my hand at shrimp so I need some suggestions. I have a cycled 20 gallon tank with HOB filter with the intake covered with pantyhose. Also have the heater and lighting with some java moss, ancharis, and a java fern. Seems to me all I need is the shrimp?
Going today for cherry shrimp since it seems to me they are the easiest to breed and are very durable. I want a little variety though so can you guys suggest some different types?
thanks
Aaron

nice link!
A question for the shrimp experts. Do any of you put leaves in your shrimp tanks? I read that hardwood leaves and some fruit leaves are loved my shrimp.

Good luck Aaron.

I did cherry shrimp in a 20gal tank. Started with 15-20 shrimp. Honestly I just about ignored this tank, had some java moss and would feed a bit of algae waffer a day or a cichlid pellet or two every once in awhile. water change once a week.

Probably three months later I started selling some off as there were LOTS. I think I kept them for 7-8 months and sold them off. Very easy species to keep, clean water and watch them multiply, I would say there was over 300 when I sold them all off.

Sweet! My LFS said they would give me 1$ per shrimp. I think she ment store credit ,but thats still good!

PS
Brian I got some firemouths Next tank and I will be getting some more cichlids.

Nice. Store credit is a great thing if it means that breeding shrimp can pay for fish food for your other stock, or new fish, or equipment. I'd suggest adding shrimp from another source to the mix after a while... ours stopped breeding after a while and I'm wondering if it's because we needed more variation in the gene pool.

I am thinking about doing Pearl Shrimp, take a look at them if you have sand substrate it might be a better idea
