| I have a 5 gallon cherry shrimp tank with sand substrate, a sponge filter, and numerous plants. That setup is working great and my little group of 8 is now nearing 100.
They eat the algae from the plants and sides of the tank, but I supplement their diet with algae wafers. One thing I haven't confirmed but seems to be true in my experience, make sure you stay away from algae wafers and veggie rounds that contain copper sulfate (usually listed near the end of the ingredients list). A surprising number of fish foods contain copper compounds, and even though a lot of people say copper sulfate is not harmful to inverts, I remain unconvinced.
I've been very happy with my cherry shrimp. They seem to be a lot more hardy than ghost shrimp, although I've heard Amano shrimp are good too (never had any). |
