how often do they molt(if at all) and do they get the new "shell"(i guess u call it that) immediatly, or how long?

I'm not sure how often they molt. I think it depends on the factors affecting their growth rate but it does take a little while before the new exoskeleton is done and that's when they're the most vulnerable to being eaten and to water conditions.
