My husbands cleaner shrimp died today.

I see all of the stuff you need from me and he is not home rigth now, perhaps you can help me anyway...someone.. I'll give you the info I know about the tank and then the question. 75 gal tank, saltwater, been up and running 4 years, Iam not sure what kind of filtration but there are lots of pipes a water tank on the botton with white filtration sheets(1), a protein skimmer. I do not know all the test numbers, nitriates, ammonia, etc. I do know sality is 1.21 I think. There are 8 clowns, several damasels, lots of snails, different varieties, little hermit crabs, a gobbie, and here is the problem or question. We had 2 cleaner shrimp for about 1 month, today around 10am one had shed its skin. 8 hours later both of the shrimp are dead. Possibly a disease? any thoughts on this problem? thank you PaulaLovett

Hi Paula welcome to Fish Lore

I moved your question out of the introduction section directly to our S/W shrimp area of the forum.
You're question will be more apt to get responses from our salty members here.

Feel free to introduce yourself in the Welcome to Fish Lore Forum. We'd love to hear about your tank.
I just wanted your question to get more exposure.

Good luck, I hope you're able to figure out what's going on.

Hi,

When shrimps molt they are at their most vulnerable state. You have a tank full of damsels (clownfish are damsels too) which are notoriously mean fish. It's possible the shrimp were picked on if they couldn't find a good hiding space.

Inverts in general are not tolerant of high ammonia, nitrates, or copper. Have you noticed any dead snails or crabs?

To better help see if you can get the basic readings: temp, s.g., ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc.
