Suggestions On A Good CLean-up Crew for a 130 Litre SW Tank:)

Hey all,

I was wondering if all you experienced SW experts out there could help me find a clean up crew suitable for a 130 Litre SW Tank.

So far the tank Has 15KG's live rock, 2 black clownfish and 3 green chromis.

Could You Help me out with some shrimp/snails for the tank?

You could look at adding 1-2 peppermint shrimp and some turbo snails, just check on the clowns and the shrimp

for that size tank, I would go w/ about 10 ceirth snails, 10 turbo snails, 5 dwarf blue leg hermit crabs, 5 dwarf red leg hermits, coral banded shirmp would be okay its your preference either that or the peppermint, the peppermint is the great nucience glass anenome eater shrimp (my new name for them) they will get rid of aiptasia if you end up w/ it on your live rock either from the rock you have or live rock you get in the future.
I have also some margarita snails in my tank, I love guys, they look so cool! their shells are covered w/ the coraline algae and their bodies are black, it really ads some color to the tank.

One addition you might also consider is an emerald crab, they are nippy at times though. They will eat hair algae, bubble algae, and they are pretty.

adding a emerald crab with that amount of CUC would be mad ,, emerald crabs (mithrax) eat hair algae and bubble algae but if you dont have a supply of food for them they will eat your corals and if you dont have or they finish them off they will turn to small fish and inverts ,, as emeralds eat at night (lights out) they can catch resting fish and eat them ,,,,

Add
ing cuc is basically a balance so add a few ov each for each problem you have in your tank ,, hermits can be added as they will eat left over food where as turbo snail will eat algae from glass and rock and if you dont have they will starve so add as needed as mentioned before there is no guidelines to cuc if you can sustain food then remove until you have a good balance

My LFS sold me some margaritas as a turbo snail. And I trusted them(somewhat) . I just now found out by you describing them.

Hi Matt,
First I would be looking at why you are having the issues with algae.
The hair algae is going to be a real pain to get rid of.
Water quality is the first thing to look at, then lighting.
A lot of the issues people have with algaes is due to the method used to cycle the tank.
ammonia plays a bigger role in algae growth / food more than phosphates and nitrates.
For some control with the algae get the following:
Janitor crabs. Clibanarius sp. 10-15 off
Cerith snails. cerith sp. 10-15 off
Green turbo snails. Turbo sp. 6 off
You can get them at OCEANARIUM heres there link
http://www.oceanarium.com.au/index.htm

On the skunk cleaner shrimps, have you seen the price of then here in WA, The last one I got was $170.00au. Found a place on line that sells them for $125.00au.
