Are my serpae sick??

I have two serpae's. One, is becoming really pale (Bonnie) and swims around the back of the aquarium staying low. It is also sticking around with the gold fish (i know, a gold fish). I read that serpae's like to swim in the middle of the tank and niether of them do. I have another serpae (Clyde) that looks fine but all it does is spaz out in the back corner of the tank. Basically, Spazzing is its form of swimming. I just saw the Bonnie ram itself into Clyde and it looked like he was done. But i took Clyde out and quarantined him. I dont know what is wrong with the serpae's. Is Bonnie sick from being so pale? Is Clyde sick because neither has eaten and Clyde spazz's A LOT. Help please. THank you so much,

Hi Welcome to the forum

I'm sorry you're having problems.

If you could answer a few questions, it'll help the members help you.

What size tank?
How many and what kind of fish are in there?
Is the tank cycled?
What are your readings for ammonia, nitrItes and nitrAtes?
What temperature is the tank?

I have serpae and they stay middle to bottom. They're also more comfortable in a school. Adding more, depending on the size and stock of your aquarium might help with any aggression, stress or shyness.

its a 10 gallon tank. Theres two reg danios, two long finned danios, the two serpaes, and one (comet) goldfish. The tank has been cycled. I dont know the readings. I realized from everything that i am reading that i need to buy a testing kit. But The tank is about 70 degrees.

That's what I was thinking, maybe if i buy a few more of them, they would be more active and social, but at the same time i am not sure if they are sick.

thank you

Having the gold fish in the tank, It wouldn't be a good idea to add anymore fish.
Your comet really should be in a bigger tank due to the size it will grown and it's waste production.

The tropicals would probably do better in warmer water. But that may adversely effect your gold fish.

That's what i've heard. My Uncle bought the goldfish and since he moved I have to be the one to take care of the fish now and I want to do it properly this time around. We didn't really expect the goldfish to even survive from a previous ICH plague. I might have to put him in a separate tank now because he seems to be acting up to (i think from the warm water and such). Thanks

Gold Fish are smart beautiful fish. It's recommended that they have a 20g tank with an additional 10g for each additional gold fish. I think coments can grow up to about 14" given proper living conditions.
I always find that fact amazing.

Thank you. I was actually wondering about tank size for a comet. That is pretty amazing. Thank you for your help. I took the comet out. I will just have to keep watching out for the other fish now.

Your welcome. If you can slowly increase the temp (a degree and hour) to about 74/75. Thats the high end for the danios and mid point for the serpae.

Where did you put the comet?

My heater stays constant at 75 degrees. It's an old on so you can't change the temperature.

I put the comet temporarily in a fish bowl with air going through.

It sounds like you need a better heater.

Oh dear, I didn't mean take him out and put him in a bowl.
He'll foul up the water so quickly.

Yea sorry about the 70 degrees. My sister was reading it for me and thats what she said the temperature of the thermometer was. I went and looked at it myself and she read the thermometer wrong. The water is 75 degrees.

Don't worry I will put him back.
