Serpae Tetra's

Hi,

I have a Juwel 240L been set up around 6 weeks.

I have the following fish:

6 Serpae Tetras
3 Black Mollies
1 Swordtail

The Serpae's do chase each other and nip, i think they have had the odd go at my Mollies tails as they looks very slighlty nipped.

I dont want to get rid of the Serpae's but can anyone recommend some other fish i can add to my tank that should be suitable?

Thanks

mine can be bullys at times...but for the most part arent to bad..mostly agressive during feeding time..and when i add a new fish the chase them around for a few minutes and then just forget about them..other tetras would make a good choice...neons can be harder to take care of ..i have bloodfins with mine and i LOVE Them...they are very active and attarctive to..there ont full of color there simple but look nice

Thanks.

I was thinking about maybe getting 6 black SkirtTetra's, I know they can be a bit nippy, but do you think with the size of the shoal and with the size of the Serape shoal they will hopefully leave the mollies alone?

Just out of interest, what other fish do you have with your Serpae's??

Black skirt tetras can be very nippy. I had them in my tank and wasnt happy with them. They actually would be very aggressive with each other, claiming a part of the tank as theirs and defending it if any other BSTs would come over. I hope you do not plan on getting any Angels in that tank, in my experience with them the Angels and the BSTs did not get along at all!
I found that the serpae's like to chase and nip a lot of fish. They would come up behind the other fish and nip and run! But for the most part did not cause any problems or harm. Just dont bring in a long fin black skirt because the serpae cannot resist and will chase and nip the long flowing fins.
Im not sure how a school of BSTs, Serpae and Mollies would get along...
Ive had them all in my tank at one time or another. Seemed that the dalmation mollies that I had were pretty big at the time and could defend themselves just fine.
Other than worrying about adding any fish with long flowing fins in with this selection Im sure that it can be done.

Maybe instead of looking into black skirt tetras why not add a few more swordtails in there for that lone swordtail? Maybe get a few bottom feeders? Oto, cory cat?

Thanks for ur advise Kate!!!

I did have a male swordtail with the female but unfortunately he died a few days after putting him in the tank....i think i wil get a couple more swordtails, but do you think a male one might be a problem with its long 'sword' tail?, im a bit worried the serpae's will nip at it.

I was looking at some bottom feeders, a couple of albino Corys, but i heard from a few sites the Serpae's nip alot at them....maybe a cory cat is more suitable

Dont worry, no Angels in this set up
