Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

Morning guys - I was admiring my live rock this morning and *think* i have discovered a star fish! I really dont know if it is or not though...it's really REALLY tiny. It must be about 5 mm across and a very pale blue. I touched it to see if it was just part of the rock but it felt like it could be disloged so I left it - I didn't want to upset the little thing! Any anyone advise? I cant get a picture of it - its too small!
Thanks!

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

After watching the starfish OBSESSIVELY for a few minutes it moved!!! It's gone right across the piece of live rock and I also have these things in tubes and they move up the tube and put fluffy red fronds out in to the current but if the fish get too close they zooom back inside. my whole family is SOOO excited - we have set up chairs along the side of the tank and all just sit and stare hehe Do i need to feed them anything special?

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

Today is just a day of discovery! I cannot identify the type of starfish but the red things in tubes I think are tube worms and i have also found a snail! Its also small but I've taken it out because I really dont want an epidemic of snails. I'm keeping it in the quarantine tank..
WOWEEE!

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

That's cool! I know what you mean about watching the live rock and looking for hitch hikers. It can be quite fascinating watching it develop and I've spent many hours looking for new discoveries wether it be tube worms or the different forms of algae. I wouldn't worry about getting rid of the snails. They may help keep the algae under control as they grow and as your tank matures.

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

Hey Mike, you're right about the snails - I kept them in and found they were eating all that nasty brown algae that was forming on the rocks.I have discovered loads more tube worms and caught the bristleworm too! I have also discovered 2 new things but Icannot identify them. They look like brittle stars but they hide in the live rock very well :

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! I bought some cured live rock yesterday and popped it in my tank and this moring i checked on it, only to find 17 (visible) dark green starfish! I cannot believe my luck!! There is also a bristleworm lurking so I've set a trap for him. There is also a green leafy algae plant thing growing too.
happy days!

Thank you Its very sad - the damsels are not nearly as friendly as he was. I miss his company while I'm at my computer. I'll have to get some more but I want to wait to get my RO unit and protein skimmer before i get any more fish.

Ah gosh I'm glad you find it interesting! I feel like anervous obsessive wreck at the moment. I'm staring at the glass every possible moment and working out how the live rock should go. There are SO many possibilities it's just impossible to decide!

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

I think saltwater aquariums are very beautiful and interesting.Basically all hospitals and resturaunts have saltwater tanks and I stare at it for a long time, marveling at their beauty. I am thinking about getting a saltwater tank after I set a fish rack for my guppies. I know very little about saltwater tanks and will be fun studying all the fish and making combinations.

Do you have any new pics of the tank with added rock in it?

Re: Do I have a tiny starfish?!!

Yeah Starfish are cool - and SOOO pretty! I think you just have to be picky about what kind you get depending on your tank and what plants and corals you have...

Thats crazy about going to school with James! Very cool My boyfriend owns the studio - his dad offered to fund it for him so it's very exciting. He's had quite a few local bands in but nobody famous just yet! He's also a guitarist - i tired to learn but I can only play acoutsic stuff and very simply. Chris is really into technical noodling LOL
