Beginning Sea Star

Hi All,

I have a 55 gallon FOWLR and would like to hear from you guys about suggesting a good, colorful beginning sea star for me. Any help you can provide would be great...thanks!

Hey,
i would say that no seastars are for beginners, since they are very very sensitive and most need #1 a lot of live rock for it to feed on or #2 a lot of live sand for it to sift its food thru...
you have no inverts right?
but since yours is only a FOWLR.. i would suggest a chocolate chip star? one of the hardier seastars.... that you can hand feed...
but remember... you need to acclimate it right.. takes like 3-4 hours.. you cant rush it... or youll run the risk of losing it to acclimation shock

What are some of the hardier reef safe seastars?

i would say a sand sifting seastar .... a red starfish or the hardier reef safe seastars... with the sand sifting being easier...

how long does it take for a sea star to go from larvae (guess that's what you call it?) to a grown one. I found two of them in my tank, came with the live rock. Have plenty of rock for them to grow in and plenty of live sand on the bottom for them to sift through. Noticed them about 2 weeks ago, and tank has been running for about 2 months now. Just wondering how long will it be before I seem them for real and not just tiny glimpses.
