Seahorses are here!

I brought my seahorses home a few days ago and they are wonderful. I think we have spent a good four hours or more just watching them.

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping I have the skill to keep them alive too. I have researched and read and am taking an on-line course in seahorse keeping but I'm still nervous. So far so good. Gosh Dave your 90 gall reef tank scares the dickens out of me! They are truely fasinating creatures and I have Lorabell to thank for enabling me, Thanks Lorabell!

very nice....very tempting, but too time consuming and maintaining my tanks is already too expensive...

Awwh I love them!
Seahorses are the best!

Are they Australian SH's?
Where'd you get them? I've never seen a LFS stock seahorses before.

They were at a LFS in Portland, Oregon. I have actually seen them at three LFS so far. TheLFS called them Black Sea Horses however I think they are really H. Erectus. I have two girls and have named them Ginger and Whoa Nellie. So far they are doing really great, eating their mysis shrimp, swimming all over the tank and just being very entertaining.

Hooedc, the MTS seems to work that way! Last Nov. I put up my 75 gal and 4 months later I'm adding tank five! I was really leery of starting a saltwater tank but its not really that much different from FW IMO. The seahorses do not require high intensity lighting or a powerful water current. They do require frozen or live food which was different for me and WC's are a little different. Can't use my python to fill the tank, its back to one bucket at a time. I don't have a protein skimmer (yet) and I'm buying R/O water and mixing the salt in at home. Seahorses are fairly clean so with the live rock it's only a weekly 5-7 gallon water change.

Whoa Nellie and Ginger are doing great and continue to be great entertainment. I have added snails and crabs to the tank but whenever I'm tempted to add another horse or goby I remember that the balance I have now is working and the girls are so happy. No babies, I have two girls. Whoa Nellie has picked up some yellow coloring so its easier to tell them apart now. Also Nellie is slightly bigger and always is the first one to the food. They have learned to hang out at their feeding station, waiting for breakfast and dinner. Way easier to keep then I thought they would be.
