Dwarf Seahorses

Hi I just built a tank that will contain about 8-12 gallons. I want to put a group of dwarf seahorses in it. The tank will also contain multiple species of macroalgae (not Caulerpa) as hitching posts. How many seahorses do I need to start a breeding colony? I find these animals very interesting. Also, will they eat 24 hr. baby brine shrimp that have been frozen, but thawed to feed the seahorses if a small current moves them to make them look real? Their tank will be plumbed into a 187 gallon tank above.

.a naman.

This is not true for all species. The ones you may be thinking of are the sea dragons. Dwarfs are the marine equivalent of the guppy..quite prolific

any updates on your dwarfs? I am looking into getting some myself.

Why not wait until tank is well repaired. It will be great experience.
Never have kept this specific dwarfs but have 5 (2 yrs old in captivity and 3 only 10 days in captivity) of what I believe to be erectus caught from ocean by my children. These erectus have no probelm sucking up prawn/shrimps that are 1" long (Even I was surprised when saw them suck up large live prawn in one shot) which also were caught where seahorses wer caught.
I've personally seen large Orange, golden, red seahorses out of brazilian water crack shell of small blue legged hermits for snack.

Crack!!!!!Crack!!!. There goes another prawn. LOL!
