Your good mate at the LFS is just out to make money by saying a Blue Tang will be fine in only 130 litres of water. Mainly considering they can get up to a foot long and need a lot of empty swimming place. Your money, your tank, and your poor fish, so do what you want, I guess. There is no tang on this planet that should be put in anything less than 55 gallons. Just my 2 .

Nice fish, the tank looks pretty awesome! I've never had a saltwater tank but the live rock is really beautiful. I quite often take the advice of my local fish store 'maidenhead aquatics' nothing is ever wrong there, why are people so edgy about shop workers? I also love the black and white clowns...very cool =]

Keeping fish in an aquarium that is too small is incredibly unhealthy. It morally wrong to put something that grows large into a small confine area for several reasons. 1) You are preventing the fish from growing to it's full potential. It will either become stunted, or it will die. 2) You are causing the fish to live extremely uncomfortably. Imagine yourself, living in a 3 foot by 3 foot closet, with only a bucket to go to the bathroom in. No matter how much air circulation there is, no matter how much you are fed, and no matter how many times that bucket is dumped out, you are guaranteed to live a miserable life. This is exactly what is happening to large fish in small aquariums.

If the fish does not suffocate in it's own filth, it is going to become stunted. Stunting is very painful, and causes deformities. Deformities include internal organs growing inside the body, even when the body is not growing. Soon the organs will grow too large and either 1) 1 or more organs will burst open inside the fish causing a massively painful death for the fish, or 2) An organ will grow too large for the body to be able to supply energy to and the fish will die of some sort of organ failure, usually a slow death. Other symptoms of stunting are sculliosis, which can get to the point where the fish can barely move, and does cause severe spinal pain for the fish.

and this is a scientific fact not advice from a lfs, that just want to take your money friend or not , as there is no friend in business ,
WHY TRY A PROVEN FACT

I'm not going to try something that should not be done. Experimenting is one thing, but there is no Tang alive that should be in a 35 gallon tank. I know you are not going to listen to sound reason. Proper research was obviously not done in this case. Proper research is consulting more than one source of information for advice. If you were to search up articles online for a Blue Tang , 99% would say a tank size of at least 60 gallons is recommended if not bigger tanks are recommended. Oh well, your waste of money, but poor fish.

Matt,
Just some advice, keep a close eye on the ammonia for the next 2 weeks.
Adding a fish this size can over load the bio filter for a short time till the bacteria catch up.
Keep an eye on the tang for small white spots, they look like grains of salt.

Good to hear you have a bigger tank planned. Matt, some view keeping fish like tangs in smaller tanks, like a 34 liter, as cruel. The Paracanthurus hepatus can get to be about 10 - 12 inches in size, they are very active and need lots of swimming space. Not coming down on you for doing this, but that's the truth. I'm not trying to sell you anything, nor is travie or peterpiper. Rather, we are just trying to help you make good long term decisions for your tank. Much less stressful that way.

Hi Matt,
Just be carefull with what meds you put in the tank.
Some will kill the bacteria and could kill the things on the LR.
ICH is what to look for on the tang, small white spots.
The tang would start rubbing on things, if he starts this, then have a closer look at him
