After losing 15 Beautiful DISCUS in an ice storm when the power was out for 3 or 4 days, I bought a generator for my house. Problem solved If that is not an option for you, you can purchase a battery powered back up air supply for around $12 at your LFS. You plug it into the socket, add batteries, turn it on. When the power goes out it automatically comes on. As far as filtration and heat....Cover the tank for warmth, try to keep your bio matter wet even if you have to put it inside the tank itself, the good bacteria need oxygen as well as your fish. Some have suggested a battery back up that is used on a computer system. My opinion, WAY too much $ for the short amount of time that it's going to work.

Generator is the way to go... But I live in government quarters so generator is out of the question. I have purchased a nice battery operated pump that will cut on automatically like the one you suggested. It suppose to last for 20 hrs. Heating maybe a problem though in the winter.

I called Dr.s Foster and Smith and That Fish Place and asked for a battery powered back up heater and filter. They didn't know of any in existence. This was a month or so ago. You could always try a kerosene heater (cautiously) for the house just to keep things warm in one room. Fortunately we have gas heat and an in line gas water heater (we never run out of hot water). As far as filtration...my only suggestion would be partial water changes if you can get the water to the temp you need.
