Re: Basic Equipment

What do you want in the aquirum? If it is a fish only tank, then you need the same equipment as a fresh water tank only with salt water. If you want live rock, coral, or other sea aminities then different things are needed. What are your plans with the tank and what size?

Re: Basic Equipment

I am going to have a fish only tank and will use a 14 or 20 gallon aquarium.

Re: Basic Equipment

All you will need then is a heater and filter with the tank. No other special equipment will be needed for the tank.

Re: Basic Equipment

What should the temperature be and do I use gravel for the bottom of the tank? I know this a stupid question but I know absolutely nothing about SaltWater Aquariums.

Re: Basic Equipment

You could use gravel, or sand. either would be ok. I keep my tank at about 76-78F.

Re: Basic Equipment

I am going to have 14/15 gallon with gravel, filter, and live rock. Sorry for the sudden change of plans. I thought it would look too bare if I did the other way.

Re: Basic Equipment

That should look fine, if you want to get the most out of your live rock look into getting a good light fixture for it. like power compact or metal halide

Re: Basic Equipment

Actually, I found that a 30 gallon aquarium is the minimum for most saltwater fish. I did some research so is a tank with gravel, live rock, and filter a good home for 1 neon goby, a pair of clownfish, and 6 green chromis damselfish?
