What would i need besides tank , for a salt water tank.

I am assuming i would need
55 gallon tank with lid
sand
thermomiter
heater
fish
live rocks
water test kit
aquarium salt
filter what type would i need, and i cant think of anything els

Marine salt, not aquarium salt. skimmer usually. Live rocks are not always needed, depends on the kind of fish you plan on getting.

It really depends on what you're interested in keeping... I would recommend using live rock just because of the incredible biological filtration it will provide and the really cool life forms that develop on the rock such as the encrusting algae and the feather duster worms, etc.. If you're going fish only, then standard flourescent lighting will be ok. A good protein skimmer and also a hydrometer would be part of the must have list.
