Power heads

I want to be able to simulate some type of real water movement within my tank; Variations in water movement, night day and so on.

Can you tell me what you do and use and how effective you think it is?

Also I was looking at the following item "WAVE MAKER + 2-4 MAXI JET 1200 POWER HEADS. Does anyone have this in their sw tank? How do you rate it?

i have a vortech wavemaker in my 155 gallon tank. it works great for me. but its likes 900 dollars, if you are looking for something cheap go to petsolutions.com. they have many different kinds, i like the one outlet thing that turns on different powerheads at different times. it all depends on how much you want the spend.... good luck

I've heard the Maxijets + wavemaker work pretty well, especially for a budget setup. Vortechs are the gods of this area, no contest IMO....i just wish i could afford them $$$!

I'll probably end up doing the MJ + Wavemaker in my 40gal.

Your other option would just to get a few powerheads and face them towards each other on opposite ends of the tank. You'll have both currents crashing into each other.

Another option would be a SCWD on the return line. As water is pushed through it, it alternates the return from one side to the other giving you a good random flow.

My tank is 60 (uk) gallons 70 (us).

Yeah I was thinking about setting up power heads like you said, but thought it would be good to have a device that alternates the flow/current by its self.

Will check out the vortech maker and SCWD.

Thanks Guys
