powerhead question for 75 gallon sw

ok so im starting a saltwater fish tank 75 gallon. i was in petsmart looking at powerheads to keep the water moving and they got 30 gallon powerheads 50 and 70. so what should i get. three 30 gallon powerheads? two 60 gallon powerheads? or one 70 gallon powerhead ? or what. im planning on having a fish and live rock setup with sand on the bottom.

also it it true you should point the power head at the live rock for filtering purposes?

Good question techno ! I like lots of flow in a tank. It really benefits everything in the tank. There's different types of water flow you can setup in your tanks ... Like random and laminar water flow. The best thing is to set one powerhead high in the water (left side) and one powerhead low in the water (right side) facing each other. Make sure the high one is pointing up at the surface of the water, thus breaking surface tension. This will keep surface scum from building up. And yes getting the water to flow through the live rock will aid your bio filtering process.

Oh I forgot ... A 75 gallon tank needs at least 20x flow. So 75 gallons x 20 = 1500 gph (gallons per hour) of water flow. I recommend two Hydor Koralia 3 powerheads at least. At $32 each is a good price. (MarineDepot.com)
