Large Tanks

Why is it that most larger tanks (over 100G) that I find on-line are mainly glass and not acrylic? Is it that acrylic is not safer in larger tanks? At the same time that doesn't make sense since I've seen custom jobs offered online for acrylic of over 1K gallons.

Do you live near Vegas? I think I remember you mentioning that city. I can't believe there is not one aquarium store there where you can find a fish tank for sale? Have you checked out the local papers in the for sale sections? At times you can find some good deals there.

I prefer glass. Though some acrylic tanks carry a life time warranty. Lately I've seen way to many cracked large (over 100 gallons) acrylic tanks !

Glass is far cheaper than acrylic. Acrylic allows greater light penetration and is stronger. In addition, it also weighs less than glass. Most larger tanks 300 gallons + will be difficult to find in glass unless they are custom built. My only problem with acrylic is its sensitivity to scratching.

CapeKate, I do live near Las Vegas. However, I live in Arizona. Since its a different state and not close enough to the city, I don't get local newspapers from Vegas. I also don't have the money to just go window shopping from time to time to Vegas, although I was thinking about doing that today lol. I just found a site last night that has addresses to Vegas LFS's and aquarium shops.
