Crushed COral needed or not, live rock etc

Hi, I am just setting up my 50 ltr tank for saltwater and im going through all the recommendation on how to do it with regards to live rock and sand, i have been told to lay a base layer or crushed coral is this correct and if so how thick should it be, and then i do i need live rock to. I am then going to be adding the salt etc to allow the levels to stabilize, once this has been done (about 3 -4 wks?) should i add live rock and ananamae at the same time or separate. IM setting up for clownfish and starfish by the way.

Please read this first !

This will answer most of your questions. IMO, I would not use crushed coral. It's a very course substrate where detritus (uneaten food and poop) will accumulate. Use live sand or dead sand with live rock.

Trust me on this. I have crushed coral in my tank ... It was the worse advise I followed when I set up my tank.
