For a cleanup crew - I know people have a variety - but what do you guys honestly think is best at doing its job? Hermit crabs or Snails?? Good and bads sides of each??

I already have hermits - I've never had a snail in my marine tank, I just wanted to know your thoughts or stories

Make sure hermits are scarlet because blue legs kill snails for their shells.

I would do a combination of both.

In my 125 I have scarlet hermits and emerald crabs. For snails I have a combination of Astraea snails, turbo snails, and Tronchus snails.

Hermits usually clean the sand and some things on the rocks and the snails eats algae on the rocks (places you can't reach) and on the glass.

Cool - I just have common hermit crabs, the LFS lady said they are less naughty than blue or red legged hermits?

Could you specify what you mean by normal hermits? If your LFS said it's aggressive, then it's probably blue leg. Scarlets (red) are the most peaceful IMO

I can't check - i'm colourblind, but they definatly don't have blue legs

the noramal ones we have here are black legged with little white bands on the legs...love the certh snail shell
