ah okay.... our place is fairly large.... we have the new 100 gallon saltwater tank set up in one corner.... and it's double sided. We also have a double sided 150 gallon freshwater setup for the discus... and a little 15 gallon aquarium by the entrance of the house for the flower horn... I'm glad you like it.... Thanks bud!
Thanks.... 3 weeks running.... Having numerous casualties... As of today my Flagfin angel just died! Have marine ICH and my imperator is not doing well....
Isn't 3 weeks a little too soon for fish in a marine tank?
Tom
YES !!! .... If it isn't cycled yet. You can use BIO-Spira - For Quick Aquarium Cycle (plug for a sponsor) . This will cycle a tank in about 24 to 48 hours.
bmRboY is your tank cycled yet ?
We got the water from the petshop... That's what they use to house their fish.... They said that it was cycled seeing that all their stocks use the water... even the live rock and corals.... Might have to cycle it again less the fish....
That why and how people get Ich. Never share or use your LFS (local fish store) water. Mix your own saltwater or buy RO/DI clean saltwater. I know it's a pain when setting up 100 gallon tank, but it's the safest way. I had to make six trips to the LFS with two 5 gallon jugs. You should also think about setting up a quarantine tank before releasing new fish into you tank.
It really depends on where you live I guess... The reason why I started a marine aquarium is I currently live in the Philippines... Everything here is cheap... I got the tank custom made and it only set me back $60
Here's a breakdown of the prices
100 gallon tank $60
40 kilos live rock $80
40 kilos live sand $20
protein skimmer $40 canister filter $100
overhead filter $40
Here's the kicker
Fish
Imperator Angel fish $10 - mature
Lion fish $1.50 blue tang $5
Maroon Clown $1
You get my point... Everything here is much cheaper.... I've seen an Imperator angel in one of the sites in the States and it costs $150!
So I guess I'm just lucky living in the tropics I guess...
omg I live in Sothern California, USA. Prices here are huge here. I dont even want to think about how expensive it would be..lol this guy I know invested $750 in a 5 gallon reef!!!!!
I heard... My uncle who lives in Pasadena had a 50 gallon aquarium... He said he spent thousands of $$$... He lives here in Manila 6 months of the year... he freaked out when he found out how cheap everything here is... he said he paid $40 for a yellow tang once and it only costs $2 here... It's crazy!!!
at my LFS they were charging $8 for a tiny blue hermit crab and $17.00 for a young clownfish. Also small coral frags were goin at $75 each. its crazy. A 5 gallon nanocube costs $350 there. I hate it lol. but then just look at califronia. a 3 story house in Kansas would go for about $450,000 while here in California the same house would go for about 2 Million.
You're killing me. Can't take so much envy, my face is turning green! You really have yourself a great setup there. Am sure it was much hard work, but man does it look good!
Thanks armadillo.... If it's any consolation It took me 15 years to get all of this.... I started with a 10 gallon aquarium with swordtails and flagtails... You never know.... maybe you'll end up with a better setup in less time....
Oh, am just happy getting on top of all my disease problem at the moment. Who knows, I might get ambitious when it's all settled. Living fish is my ambitious at this stage, then I'll try to keep my plants alive, then I might consider the rest!
Showed my boyfriend the pictures of your tanks and he got a little scared I might want that... Now!
Nice looking tanks. Never have tried FW baths but I wouldn't add anymore corals either, They like older tanks, but good luck with your fish
Depends where you live in US unfortunately for prices. For me in Ohio it isn't too bad, I get hermits for .99$ Of course bmRboY you don't really have to pay for shipping heat and cold packs and the other stuff like we do so our prices go up quite a bit, that stuff isn't cheap. Of course, some people just are greedy or need to charge more to compete with large chains here, do you guys have petco etc.?
Petco stinks. I shop at a LFS or Petsmart. its better. but more expensive.
That depends on the GM of the store. Mine by me is nice, the guy who keeps the fish is really nice and is good. He's helped me out before too in both SW and FW. I just used it as an example.
well dont ever buy fish from Petcos in Orange County, CA. I think ive only ever found two that didnt have a fish section that was swarming with signs of diseases.
