Lorabell is encouraging (read enabling) me as I set up my first saltwater tank.
The tank is a 29 gallon Ecilpse tank. I set the tank up one week ago today. I used 1.5 inches of fine sand as my substrate, 11 lbs of
live rock, two cups of
live sand and added
ammonia. This was all done under the guidence (sorta) of a
LFS guy. I mixed my own water and have a
salinity of 1.023. The guy (sorta weird) said I didn't need a
test kit yet and I'm not sure why. How will I know when the tank is cycled? Any help with next steps would be appreciated. I'm taking an on-line course from Ocean Rider on Sea Horses and so I'm also waiting for their adviceas well. I have found another Saltwater store but will not be able to get into town until next weekend. I think I will take some water with me and see if they can test it. Can I test with a freshwater test kit for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?
