my yellow tang and chromis

For some reason, the last few days my green chromis has taken to following my yellow tang around. I was able to get this pic last night.

Sure...you wanna see a what a field of hair algae looks like??

Since the summer, I've been trying to beat a serious bad case of HA. Specifically derbesia. This stuff is hard and can out compete macro algae. And I'm not the only one here in Atlanta dealing with the stuff. I know of 2 others who are dealing with the same species of HA.

Ya this stuff is quite hardy but I still have options open to me. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of it over the next couple of months.

I hate hair algae. It took me about a year to remove them. I had some corals died because of the algae taking over them last spring. Now my tank looks much better

My yellow tang use to eat a lot, but he doesn't like the long ones

Some advice:
-Buy a skimmer that's suppose to be about three times the size of your tank.
-Buy turbo snails
-Do weekly water changes
-Remove them by hand weekly when you do water changes
-Buy a football sized cheato and throw it in your sump. It helps prevent it from growing.

Dude...I'm way ahead of you. Already have a good skimmer and I've gone to wet skimming to the point where I have to empty the cup every day. I am doing weekly water changes of 20% along with removing the rock and scrubbing it in a bucket so the HA can't get back into the tank. I've had cheato for over a year now. I'm even running a algae scrubber that is slowly attracting the stuff. Added phosphate reactor and am now buffering my alk.

I am going to get more turbo snails to eat the stuff on Saturday. I just haven't time to run to the LFS lately.

The stuff I'm dealing is derbesia. This is some of the toughest HA out there. From what I've read, this stuff just laughs at lights out periods and normal algae fighting techniques. But I am determined to win this one. After all this is war!!

Well all right, just trying to help. I spent like over a $100 bucks trying to remove my GHA. I even ran two skimmers at once. (ETSS 800, Kent Marine nautilus)
