It's a Glass Odyssea B60. Came with tank, stand, compact florescent lights (blue and clear) and hood wet/dry filter. I liked it because the front has no green glass edges. They are round.
WOW thats looking really nice!
Mines still so bland comparitively. I'm SOO jealous!
Are those real plants in the background? And is that a xenia you've got there?
Some of the plants are plastic ... The tank was so bare, so I thought I would use two plastic seaweed plants until it gets more established. The green one is real soft and the fish like. The brown one is very hard and the fish for the most part stay away.
And is that a xenia you've got there?
I'm not sure ... I will ask the next time I'm in the fish store. It's real. As are the mushrooms.
I add a little live rock and coral every week or two. Trying to go slowly ....! It's so hard ! LOL
Pretty pretty pretty!
I've finally got a bit more colour to mine - I got some red caulerpa and some green cualerpa just to make it a little more lively. I've got a shaving brush plant coming soon too http://www.petsolutions.com/Images/200/178550L.jpg
Thanks Joe,
It's still a very young tank (2 months). I keep making changes all the time. My recent changes are to the filtration system.
I have removed the hood filter and air-skimmer, and replaced them with ....
Whisper-60 power filter - Mechanical
Eheim 2227 Wet/Dry filter - Biological
Coralife Super Skimmer 65 - Chemical
hi are those just fluresent bulbs for your coral becuase i am thinking of changing to corals from live rock so please help if they are just fluresent bulbs did they come with the tank or did you bye the bulbs seprate and can you do that just bye the bulbs for your light. thanks please reply.
Yes they are power compact (PC) fluorescent lights. One set of white, one set of actinic blue. The soft corals like them, though not enough
wattage for stony corals or an anemone.
And yes they came with the tank, but you can buy a retrofit kit that will fit you standard light hood.
AH I'm so jealous! Yours looks amazing...
that wall along the back.. did you biuld it or buy it? And what Wattage lighting do you have?
And are the plants real?
Thanks Miss Mouse !
Not sure what wall you mean ?
Light wattage is around 150 watts total. I need more !
Plants are all soft corals except that green plastic seaweed by the heater. I will post close-ups tonight.
Wow that tank is so beautiful, and so are your fish. If you havent named them, you should name them off the nemo movie clownfish-nemo bluefish-dory and yellowtang- bubbles...lol im sure you arlrady named them though. taking care of a saltwater tank is like a daily ritual though, right, it takes alot of time to take care of the water...i always wanted one but thats what people said
Thanks lolagurl,
Yes it's a lot of work ... But I really enjoy it.
I use to have Oscars and breed Cichlids ... They were easy compared to a saltwater tank.
Ahhhh that is just fabulous!
I meant the wall of live rock - is it just one big piece or lots of smaller ones? I wish i could pay you to come round and aquascape mine! Not my strong point sadly
The wall is just a bunch of small rocks. The purple is starting to come out more now. Plus I bought a turbo snail last week ... he's great at cleaning
all the green algae off of everything !
I am a little worried about the live rocks falling over and cracking the glass ... I live in So. Calif. (earthquakes ).
Any suggestions ?
The LFS owner wants me to buy another 60 lbs. of live rock. I told him "where will the fish swim" LOL .
Yeah ... It's gone, it in a box next to my hood filter. I have a CSS-65 now. The Berlin Air-Lift worked, just not as good as the my new skimmer. I'm old school when it come to aquarium equipment. Protein skimmers weren't around 20+ years ago when I started in the hobby. My friend owned a Tropical fish store back then. All of his saltwater tanks ran undergravel filters, sand and shell substrate, bleached coral ... The whole tank looked bright white ! LOL
I'm a convert now. Live rock, protein skimmer and good current is foundation to a stable SW tank. Not so sure about the DSB yet.
Do some research on small nano skimmers ... Before you spend your $$$$$.
Wow! Looks like your tank is coming along nicely. Nice job. Do you know the scientific name for the blue tree coral? I've not seen one look like that before... Very nice looking. Just wondering if it's one that would need metal halides or VHO bulbs?
Don't know the scientific name for the blue tree coral ... I will ask the LFS were I bought on Saturday. As for the lighting ... I'm pretty sure the LFS owner told me my lighting was enough. Of course LFS's like bending the truth a lot. LOL (maybe I should take my own advise ... and do my own research .. LOL)
So far it's doing fine.
I think the rule is 4 watt per gallon but dont quote me on that!
I only have 60 watt in a 40 gallon so I'm trying to save up for some really good overhead luminaires but i keep having to fork out cash on my car...grr!
wow!!!! facinating to see it develop. thinking of joining the salty world...... so having a nosey around the salty boards to see what i can learn!!
bit scary though with rock + glass + earthquakes!! have you asked local people what they do? they're probably the best ones to know about earthquakes and how to prepare for them! whats your lfs do? do they have rocks in tank? can you put some plants behind the rocks to cushion between thr rocks and the glass? maybe the perspex tanks are better for your area?!
good luck and keep up the good work! keep the pics coming. i love them!!
