| You can't see the sand bed, because I don't have one ! My tank is a bare bottom tank (BBT). BBT's are easier to maintain in the long run. I went BB due to a long battle with high nitrates.
More on this later ... leaving work right now. |

| Thanks iloveengl, I think like most saltwater tanks it has it's ups and downs. The hardest time of the year is the summer months. The heat is not kind on corals. My tank will be three years old in November. |

| Great Tank Andy
Could u tell me what your water parameters are the next time u do a test plz andy?
Do you think my tank would be ready to add some SPS in? It(420 litre) has been setup almost 3 months now and no concerns of water quality so far I have MH lights
Got a job at McDonalds so i can finally start buying more stuff more frequently for my new tank
Looking at getting 4 bangaiis for my new 420 litre tank
Cheers

-Matt | Not that is was ignoring the question on my water parameters ... I just usually test them on Mondays. LOL
The only parameters I test religiously are Alk and Cal. Nitrates are all over the place... LOL Sometimes at zero ... then if a fish dies in the live rock it can get as high as 50ppm. IMO nitrates not a problem, so long as you don't keep them too high for long periods of time. We all try to maitain them under 5ppm.
Last Monday I was at:
ALK - 8.0
Cal - 420
I will test all parameter tonight !
Glad to see your working to support your addiction ... I mean hobby ! LOL
Just start with easy sps's (i.e. monti-caps) That's what I did. That why my monti-cap are so big. They are the oldest sps's in my tank.
g2g back to work ! Will post later tonight. |

| Andy what do the monti caps need in terms of water parameters and also positioning in tank?
DO they need to be fed?
Do they need high flow rate?
Thanks,
Matt |

Thanks,
Matt | It requires moderate to high lights and You should be able to put them any where in your tank. (what type of halides? meaning wattage, color temperature, and how many you have) People all so grow these under PC, HO, VHO, but halides will give best results
It requires moderate to high water flow. (all SPS needs moderate to high water flow because it has to depend on water flow to remove waste, food, or anything that's stuck on it)
It doesn't need to be fed. You don't need to feed any corals, but I always do because their colors look better and they grow much faster when I feed them.
Hope this helps, |
