10g Nano

Hello hello all,

I have started my very own 10g nano tank. I setup the water on thursday and gave it a couple days to cycle through the filter with the power head running.

Then added 11 lbs of cured pukani live rock, I got a great deal at only 3.99/lb for it. One of the pieces had a yellow sponge and 3 things that look like polyps on it even.

Current stocking ideas is a single ocellaris clownfish, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp and however many turbo snails are needed to keep the algae growth at bay.

Current readings: pH-8.2, ammonia-.5ppm, nitrite-0ppm, nitrate-15ppm

Any suggestions on how to proceed are greatly welcomed.

a 30 g tank is reccomended for a clown fish you might have to get a bigger tank to accomadate him when he gets bigger (well that worked for me with my tangs)
you are pretty restricted with a 10g, 30 g nano would give you more options

Yea, that was the general idea. Although i'm kind of curious as to why a 3" fish would need a 30 gallon tank. Everything i've read says they tend to pick a spot to call home and don't stray very far from it. I assumed the recommended size that is on this website for SW fish was more for holding water parameters.

I know there is atleast 1 person that actually has 2 false perculas in a 10g nano.

the sizes are reccomended not to the size ov the fish but swim room for the fish and for the general health ov the fish and enough water to supply oxegen for the fish

Ammonia dropped to a solid .25ppm today from between .50-.75ppm yesterday. Nitrites are reading 0ppm as they have since the LR was put in, before the LR it was reading .75ppm. Nitrates have dropped from 25ppm to roughly 10ppm since the LR went in.

I appear to have aiptasia growing, should I opt for a peppermint shrimp when the ammonia settles to 0ppm for a few days? What else would be good for controlling the other algae's starting to grow?

Oh yea, new 40watt light system coming in thursday on UPS, should make colors more vibrant.

Eventually i'm going to start putting in some soft corals, in about a month I think. For now I just got a mess of blue legged hermit crabs last night and the ocellaris clownfish that I wanted.

SW tanks are a ton of fun I've found out.

It has been, but it's also very rewarding too. Today, I go to the fish store again to pick up some more inverts and maybe even my first coral.

Haven't updated this thread in a while. Anyway, just picked up a frogspawn frag today and it's already loving its new environment. It sits about 8 inches below the PC lights, where as at the store it was about 3 feet below a 250w MH system. It's pretty tiny right now, but i'm looking forward to watching it grow just like my shroom has. I'll have the test kit/additives for hard corals tomorrow from the UPS guy.

Ok, so i've made a number of large changes to my tank. I've added another 3 pounds of LR upping it to 14 pounds of pukani live rock. I've added roughly 7 pounds of sand substrate giving me a good 1 1/2" sand bed. Put in a new heater and filter. I've also added a yellow watchman goby to the tank as well. Today I added some pink zoanthids, got a frag for only $30. I'll be sure to get pics of my 3 corals when they open up again, they didn't like all the moving as I rearranged my LR.
