My 10 gal Nano (lots of pics)

Well i figure being new here its best to start with some pictures!

Tank: 10gal
Lighting: 250w MH 14k (No such thing as overkill!!!)
Water movement: Maxijet 400, 2 HOB filters with DIY fuge mods
LR: 10-12lbs i guess
Inhabitants: Fourline Wrasse, Royal Gramma, Skunk Cleaner shrimp
Coral: SPS, LPS, Zoas and Softies

I have 8 total pieces out of the ORA collection, 7 different varieties. 13 type of SPS all together, 10-11 colorforms of Zoas/Pallys, and various other odds and ends as far as coral goes.

Its about 1.5-2 years old though its only been in the 10gal for about 7 months, was a 2.5gal before that. As you can see its basically a frag holding tank for the time being LOL. Sorry about the algae.

Oh i know! Lots of creepies...my wrasse usually keeps them at bay though.

Thanks everyone, still a work in progress. Here are a few Macro shots from around the tank, thought you might enjoy these.

From what i've observed and noticed no it doesn't. However sometimes i'll wake up in the morning with frags pullout of the sand and a decent sized pit there...so maybe.

oh we see ours go completely in the sand and stays there for HOURS at a time. I worry to death that she'll die in there, as our first one did, but she eventually comes out. you'll see pics of her in a thread called something like

Thursday's gonna be a big fish day! under Saltwater stocking forum.

Imagine it in the 2.5gal before hand! It was a tight fit. Couldn't even get my hands in to clean without breaking something or knocking something over.

I'm still up in the air about leaving this tank going when my new 40gal gets setup, i would like to keep it but am using both of my 250w MH fixtures on the new 40gal. So we shall see where it goes.

Thanks everyone.

Yes it was actually LOL. People said go as big as possible but i did the complete opposite. It was up for a year or year and a half through my 5months at bootcamp and was fine when i got back. Thats when i decided to upgrade to the 10gal.

I personally find it pretty easy, self sustaining almost as long as you have a regular water change schedule. If something does go wrong, it can go wrong quick. But if you start with a good salt mix, and take things slow i don't see how you could have a crash.

I really want a saltwater, but dont have the space for another big tank.

What is your waterchange schedule? and your salt mix?

How much $$$ did you spend on those lights?!?

I try and do 1 Water change every 1.5 - 2 weeks. Being only 10gals its hardly any trouble at all. I use Instant Ocean salt. Once this bucket is done i might explore something else...not sure yet. Instant Ocean hasn't failed me yet though.

The fixtures/ballasts were $120ish each i believe, the bulbs were like $50 each. So all in all i spent $340 on the whole setup, but am only using half on this tank. Its a Retrofit kit from Hellolights. Cheaper then those pre-maid fixtures usually.

Thanks. The wrasse is probably the most fun and entertaining fish i've kept to date. Probably the most intelligent as well. More so then any other cichlid i've had.

The gramma is pretty shy and only comes out for a while if the wrasse is out.

Well my cleaner shrimp died yesterday. No apparent reason. Everything else is fine, levels are good. I suspect some foul play by the wrasse. Eh i was chancing it anyway, only a matter of time.

Foul play, huh? Well, round up the usual suspects and check for witnesses.

The hermit saw nothing, and i think the Gramma and Wrasse are partners in crime. Oh well, they can stay dirty now....no more fish wash for them!
