Photo trouble shooting

I need help...yet again. Whenever i try to take photos of my fish, they come out blurry and fuzzy...not how I want them. What are the best ways to overcome this? Or, is it just camera specific and can't really be fixed?

What camera are you using? What lighting is usually on when you take the pics? Do you use a macro lens?

Agansoo, Butterfly and some of our other members take fantastic shots and can give you pointers on taking pics.

I'm using a Konica Minolta Dimage Z10...the lights that are on are usually just my tank lights with no flash. I don't have a macro lens though...

Not sure about your model of camera, but if you have a "sports" style setting with a fast shutter speed, use it. It'll help catch the fish before they move away. Also, A tripod or other sort of steady rest is a must.

Googled your camera, and from what I can see it has a macro setting. Can focus upto 1cm away from the subject, in fact. You should be able to turn this on just by pressing a button somewhere, most likely it'll have a little tulip-like symbol next to it. You don't need a macro lens.

Try using flash - like Magpie said, the fish move fast and it's hard to focus. Flash helps get a sharper image of something moving.

The tricky thing about photographing fish is that they will not sit still. No matter how much you want them to. In order to overcome this you are going to need to set your camera with the fastest shutter speed you can. I take all of my photos with a Canon Digital Rebel XT in manual mode and set my shutter speed at about 1/200 of a second with a really wide aperture and a high ISO. Another tip is to use a tripod and use the self timer function on your camera. This will eliminate any shake that may occur when you press the shutter down.
