Converting mollies to saltwater?

I have heard that mollys can be a good cheap begginers saltwater fish if acclimated correctly, is this true?

I wouldn't do it. They're usually fresh-to-brackish fish. They may survive for a bit in saltwater, but it probably would be very uncomfortable for them.

Maybe these videos will answer your question!

They are very good at getting rid of hair algae!
I was considering some for my reef at one point!

I did see some mollies in a SW tank at my LFS a few weeks ago.

There were 2 large eels in that tank though so I'm pretty sure I know what the mollies were doing in there.

You can convert some fish to reef that can tollerate the change just takes a long process! Fresh draw oxygen thru gills and salt thru there skin! breathing thru and release thru body! Brackish fish are more tolerable than fresh and can be more successful. But think about it it can happen but may not live as long in salt! Most fish that are brackish do go salt and come back to where they come from in the beginning.
