I just got my kole tang today! I am unbelievably excited. Its my first ever saltwater fish and its just so awesome and small (about 2 inches). The next fish i get is either a firefish or a goby/shrimp pair. For the firefish does anyone have any reasons to choose purple or red? Im aware theyre the same but im stuck between colors. I might get two is this even worth trying? And for the goby/shrimp pair i plan on getting a candy striped pistol shrimp and id like some suggestions for the goby. I was thinking a blackray/whiteray shrimp goby or a yellow watchman goby. All seem to have an up and down side. Which is best in your opinion?

I do like the yasha goby, of course that's totally my opinion since I haven't owned any goby before lol. I like the red better than the purple firefish honestly. I think you could possibly get two firefish, just make sure you have a lot of caves or something to that effect, as I have heard firefish are quite territorial with each other. Whatever you decide to get I wish the best of luck!

ill probably get red unless i can find out how i could get a purple one to have the yellow instead of white. can the yasha goby be paired with a shrimp? if so is the candy striped pistol shrimp the best one?

Well if you want definent pistol shirmp pairing action (lol) I would go for the yellow watchman goby.

thats the goby i was going to go with originally but i was told they could be aggressive.

Hmm, I've always heard gobys were peaceful with other aquaria species. I would wait to get a little bit more advice but I woud go for it.

i mean its just that the blackray is one of the more guaranteed to be calm. You can even keep it with other shrimp gobies in the same burrow. But i do like the yellow watchman goby, its the first goby i looked at. will they do okay with a blenny and a firefish?

I'm not exactly sure, but from what I've read the Yellow Watchman goby is peaceful with other aquaria species and only gets agressive with other gobies. If you are worried about it stressing the blenny, blenny's are actually semi-agressive so if the watchman tried to bother it it could hold its own. It shouldn't bother the firefish because they are super fast, hence their other name "dartfish". And I would recomend getting the regular firefish insead of the purple. I saw a purple at my local fish store adn it was $47!
