Anyone know about oysters?

I have had 3 large oysters in my tank for about 8 months, I grabbed them out of someones tank that they were breaking down. they have been doing well. yesterday two of them fell off the rock, one was dead( no biggy) the other one looks like its still alive, when they fall off can they reattach or does that mean they are done for? Also is there any good way to get more of them to grow? I use Phytomax filter feeder food for them.

How old is your tank? That is the single most important factor when it comes to filter feeders like oysters. Target feeding them has limited success, and the best food for them is the plankton, algae, and other bits of stuff that live in the water column of a well-established tank.

This tank was started in 2007, it is well established and there is very good food supply for them. One of them is still alive and opening up, and of course the other that is still attached to the rock is ok to. I'm just wondering if there is a certain way to get them to reattach, and also grow more. I was thinking if I could get them to grow well i could have a small colony in my sump, do you think thats a good idea or not?
