Substrate/ Live sand filter

Hey, look at Substrate 101. What do you think of that Fluidized Bed Filter I talked about? Great Idea, don't you think?

I was just told they have fallen out of favor because of becoming a nitrate factory! I wonder if there is a way around this. I'll have to read more about how these bacteria = nitrate later. I know the basics, but, maybe I'll find something useful.

So I'm now thinking Horsies, Dartfish, Dragonets, Gobies and Jawfish mix. I know I will have to be cautious, but, I'm just thinking for now. Not yet sure. I would however like to have a schooling species, which, unfortunately I don't think are compatible with horsies. I also have to see if the moth is compatibe with the rest.

Latest update

My friends came over from Nebraska, so I spent a lil money. Now I don't have enough to up my bid on the tank. Oh well. I'll just have to save up, sigh. On the bright side, it'll give me a little longer to plan and learn.

That's a shame
But it will give you more time to plan, etc. Jumping straight in with your first tank being a 150 gallon marine setup would take a lot of forward planning and researching. Stick with the three gallon bucket for now, eh?

It could have been better. You think I'd have left enough for more than a bucken at least!

lol sorry, weve had so many problems lately its not even funny..... my hubby shure picked the best dog for lexi. hes just a little puppy so when he plays he likes to nip, so we have been trying to break that, we are taking him to a puppy pre k training class on saturday to see if theres anything else we can do. also hes scraches the out of everyone.... so i just ordered these "soft paws" they are soft caps that go on the dogs nail so he wont scratch, my friend has them on hers and it just feels like an erasor on your skin...so....

but basically with cole at work all day and the dog not trained yet, ive been really busy....

the bad thing is that untill we get whiskey trained savanah cant really play on the floor unless hes sleeping or in his crate....

so thats where ive been

lol not to mention ive been sick...so....lol

lol i hope not..... i want time to relax so bad! i dont even know how im running right now...my husbands not doing much in the way of helping right now, so i feel sicker than i really am i guess.... anyways....i had an idea..... when you do water changes, i know your suposed to let the water set for a little while before hand, but if you put your filter in the container holding the new water, will that help the water cycle faster and be safer for your fish when you add it? or would it just harm the system of your tank?

Actually you're supposed to let it sit for at least a day in advance. As for siphoning it in to the tank with the filter, i'm not sure. I was thinking of doing the same thing though, easier for me and hopefully for the fish too.

Ah, blond minds do think a like, don't we? lol
