| Re: jellyfish They're fragile critters, they tend to be short-lived in the wild, prefer to be in a species specific tank, and if a seller makes a mistake on what type of jellyfish it is, the mistake could end up hospitalizing someone. One of the ones that would probably be easiest to keep in a tank, the tiny box jellyfish, also can kill with something like 5cm of sting (jellyfish stings are measured by the total length of tentacle contact on the skin). The Man O' War, which was long considered the most deadly jellyfish, needs dozens of feet of sting to kill. It is considered so deadly merely because it has such long, and so many, tentacles.
I suppose these all add up to make jellyfish rare in saltwater tanks. |
