Feeding question for those who have overflows

I was just courious if anyone else finds there food being sucked in by the overflow? I always pre-soak my food so it will not just float on the top but even with that it was always being sucked in. So at feeding time I turn it off not for to long just long enough to allow everyone to get some food and they all seem to prefer it this way. But I never asked if anyone else does this as well. I leave eveything else on so there is still alot of circulation and the food still gets a good float and they chase it down and munch so far this has worked great for me.

what kind of food do you give? I usually put the food in front of a power head so it goes down. (my power head is at the top and pointing down and the other one is on the opposite end from the bottom pointing up)

On the thing I said above, I used frozen and refrigerated food

Hmm, maybe I should try to adjust my power head on the other side like you do? I feed a variety of stuff as I am sure you do. It only seems to be a real problem with frozen foods, bloodworm's the most. I pre-soak the other stuff in a little cup with tank water and then do like you do place it in front of the one power head and most foods will go toward the overflow but then get pushed back in toward the center. I think I just got the impression it was always happening and just started turning it off during feedings but after posting I thought lets see and left it on yesterday and I fed dried krill and shrimp and none got sucked up. I also put a bag on the bar that delivers the water to the refugium and saw a huge drop in my nitrate levels. I think I was over feeding as well which was not helping the levels.

I have both my power heads pointing in kinda the same direction as when I pointed one down wards it was blowing sand all over the place and causing a big bare spot on the bottom so they are both pointing semi up wards. But maybe I should look at that as well and maybe try to place some rock around so it does not allow the power head to blow it like it was.

Oh. yeah, forgot to mention about the sand. My tank has a walk around overflows so I can have the power heads circulate around the tank and what I did for my 65 gallon with normal build middle overflows:

The one on the left is at the top of the aquarium (2.5 inch gap before water line) and the one on the right is at the bottom.

That sounds so much better I had mine off to the side sorta toward the middle but I am going to try moving it and try your positions as that looks like such a better flow around than what I have. Thanks so much for your reply you helped me out alot.

I shut mine off for a few minutes also. That way they get a chance to eat. I always feel like it's a waste of food to have it sucked right into the filter.
