Saltwater Fish Food - Topics related to the feeding of saltwater fish and invertebrates. It seems like new foods are being introduced all the time for the saltwater aquarium hobby. Pellets, frozen food, freeze dried, flake food and home-made fish foods are very popular. Feeding newly introduced saltwater fish species can sometimes be very difficult. Use this board to discuss your marine fish food issues or tips.

Feeding my tank

My 24 Gallon tank has 1 Mandarin and 2 peppermint shrimp and some snails and crabs and feather dusters and some little creatures living in the live rock. My question is I do feed my mandarin the frozen Cyclops about a half every few days and the shrimp seem to go crazy for it too, is this often enough and what else should I be feeding my tank?

mandarines normally eat pods ,, so you need to maintain a good pod culture as they eat all day ,, try gettin a refugium

Based on your questions, I'm going to assume you bought the Mandarin on impulse because of the colors?

Do it and yourself a favor, take it back. Mandarins should not be in anything smaller than a 75 gallon with an established copepod/amphipod population, meaning the tank needs to have been up for probably at least a year, and/or have a refugium with a good pod population.

All Mandarins do is swim around and eat. I read somewhere that they eat a pod about every 8-10 seconds. Only a few people I've found online have trained the Mandarin to eat frozen food, and that took several months of work. Your Mandarin is probably starving. It is best for you to take the fish back ASAP and do more homework on your fish selection.

Sorry to come off harsh but I wanted to give you the truth.
