Sick Naso Tang

I think my Naso Tang is sick. It was fine yesterday (6-14-2009) ,but today it's really skinny and it's not as active as it used to be. It's getting better since this morning(now its starting to swim a little bit), but I'm just wondering what happened to it? I feed my fish 2 times a week.

I don't think it is unusual (it certainly isn't in my tanks) to notice differences in appearance and activity at different times of day. Havign said that, IMO twice per week is not enough feeding. Myself, I'd bump that up to 4x per week...roughly every other day.

Update:

My Naso Tang isn't swimming anymore ,but the gills are still moving.

I used to feed the tank every other day ,but green hair algae appeared so i removed it ,but it's still growing so i feed the tank every 2 days and see if the algae will stop growing and it didn't so bought phosphate remover and it's still growing so now my tank is full of green hair algae and one of my corals died and i think it's because of the algae.

A picture of part of the tank.

1st-a few months ago
2nd- re stained the stand and the canopy (algae starting to grow)
3rd- part of the tank (a lot of green hair algae)

Sorry to hear the bad news. Wondering who gave you the idea of feeding the tang evey 3-4 days?
Tangs are grazers. Will graze thru out the days in nature or in the tank when rightalgae is avail. I have not come across any tangs which will graze on hair algae shown in the pics. Maybe Foxface. I would've fed them smaller amt of food 2 or 3 times a DAY until enough natural algae is avail in the tank.
Those hair algae can be easily removed with Long Chopsticks. Once well removed, add Macros to compete with hairys. It may take time, but more natural ways of making adjustments in the tank.
Next time when acquiring Tangs, buy Nori unless you already have them.

Sorry to hear that. Do a bit more research before purchasing another and do check out www.wetwebmedia.com for some of that information. Hopefully, this will help you better care for your pets in the future and give you a better understanding of their needs in captivity as well in thier natural habitat. Take Care
