Ich in water??

I have had both my clownfish and my royal gramma die of ICH. Now my firefish is also getting ich. Whats wrong? My parameters are as shown:
Could it be that i have a HOB filter? If it is in the water how do I get rid of it?

0 ammonia
0 nitrite
0 nitrate
8.2

80-81 temp.

It's most likely in the sand in your tank.
That's where the spores fall & live.

To get rid of the ich, you can raise the temp to 82 degrees and leave it that way for two weeks.
Do you have anything that is supposed to be pulling nitrates out of the water? A fully cycled tank rarely has zero nitrates. I mention this because the most common reason for a "zero" reading in nitrates is a failure to really shake the second test bottle (which crystallizes over time). If there was a mistake in the reading, that might be disguising a high nitrate PPM, which can weaken the fishes' immune systems, making them susceptible to ich.

No. So I should test again?

I re-test any time I get a low nitrate reading in a tank that should have significant nitrates (normally due to laxity in water changes). Shake the second bottle for a minute, banging it against your hand or on a table for the entire time.

yeah, make sure you really bang the bottle against a counter or table or something, and then shake it for a solid two minutes

If you're having an ich problem and you believe its coming from your tank, You should use a saltwater safe ich treatment and shut your filter off for a couple of days. Then once you're done medicating (for however long the meds tell you to... probably about 3 days) do a water change.

Do you have a deep sand bed or chaeto (or any other form of macroalgae) if so that would explain the zero nitrates. Personally, I would leave the tank fishless for two months till all the ich dies off from lack of food.

Less chemicals you use, especially in a SW environment, the better.
